Chronic pain is America’s most under-reported epidemic. While most Americans aren’t aware of its pervasiveness, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists chronic pain as the country’s primary cause of lost workdays. It affects more people than cancer, heart disease and diabetes combined (with over 100 million Americans suffering from it). It is estimated to cost employers as much as $300 billion per year in lost productivity, and over 50 million people are partially or totally disabled by chronic pain.
In order to raise awareness about the effects of chronic pain, Dynamic Health & Pain Management hopes to rally support for Pain Awareness Month. First declared in September of 2001, Pain Awareness Month was created to increase public knowledge about the effects of pain and to educate citizens about the advanced treatment options available to help alleviate pain.
Pain Awareness Resources
To help build awareness, we’ve compiled a list of pain management resources to educate those suffering from pain:
Pain Management Resources – This list of resources will help you and your family get help with chronic pain.
American Chronic Pain Association – This agency educates the public (including families) about pain — so those in chronic pain can live more fully.
American Pain Foundation – This group is dedicated to ensuring all pain sufferers get adequate treatment for their pain.
The Arthritis Foundation – For people who suffer from a form of arthritis, this website is a great resource for information.
National Headache Foundation – Headache sufferers and headache doctors use this foundation’s website as a resource.
