Dr. Peter Cox
Chiropractic Physician
Growing up, Peter Cox wanted to be either a minister or a detective. He ended up a chiropractor, which he says combines the sensitivity of a pastor with the analytical approach of an investigator.

As a Chiropractic Physician with Dynamic Health and Pain Management Dr. Peter Cox’s unusual background and skills have drawn national attention fromPsychology Today, Today’s Health and Wellness, Chiropractic Economics, The Charlotte Observer, and other publications. He has written for The Charlotte Business Journal.

Cox was a National-Champion fencer at Penn State University and a four-time All-American when he injured himself while training for the U.S. Olympic Team. Though physical therapy helped, he later re-injured his back and sought help from a Chiropractor. That relationship inspired him to enroll in Chiropractic College in 1992. Within four years, Cox became the nation’s #1 ranked sabre fencer and earned the top spot on the U.S. Olympic Team in 1996. That same year he graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College, in Kansas City, MO.

Cox opened the Chiropractic Care Center in 1997. It grew to be a multi-disciplinary office offering chiropractic and physical therapy. His expertise was sought after in 2001 by the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. For three years, he was one of only a handful of chiropractors who treated the country’s top golfers.

Today, Cox has focused his expertise on a multidisciplinary medical office. “I’ve always seen myself as a strong team leader,” he says. “My nickname when I was in college was “The Catalyst”. I love to motivate patients, staff, and myself. I am very fortunate to be able to work for and with Dr. Altizer providing this unique care to the Charlotte Community.”

Cox is motivated by a quote from Thomas Edison: “The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

Those are words Cox lives by and wishes to share with all who are motivated for a healthier life. Cox is married to clinic manager Heidi Cox and is the proud father of Brianna and Andre. In his free time, he gives lessons at local fencing clubs, enjoys tennis, sailing, and cars.

Dr. James Altizer
Medical Director
Dr. James Altizer was born to practice medicine. From the time he was a child he knew he would never do anything else. Graduating from Davidson College and entering the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond in 1981 was the beginning of a dream come true. After Richmond he traveled to Augusta, GA to complete a 3 year internship and residency in Internal Medicine.

To pay back his naval scholarship to medical school Dr. Altizer entered the US Navy and worked as an Internist at the Navy hospital in Beaufort, SC and as teaching faculty at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA. He also served in the first Gulf War during Desert Storm and received a total of 5 decorations prior to leaving the US Navy in 1992.

He practiced Internal Medicine for 7 more years where his special interest was asthma. He then took up the new field of Phlebology (vein disease) in 1999. He has been in Charlotte since 2001 and worked at the Vein Center of Charlotte for 15 years.

He is board certified both in Internal Medicine and Phlebology and is a Fellow of the American College of Phlebology. He is also doubly credentialed in vascular ultrasound. Dr. Altizer rides his two Harley Davidson motorcycles when weather permits and also enjoys target shooting and collecting antique medical and surgical instruments. He has a son and daughter who both graduated from college in 2010.

When Dr. Cox was looking for a medical director for Dynamic Health and Pain Management the first physician he thought of was Dr. Altizer. Being skilled at injection techniques from his work with vein disease, performing injections for joint pain and trigger points was a natural next step for Dr. Altizer, who has personally known Dr. Cox for almost 10 years.

“Since joining Dynamic Health and Pain Management as the Medical Director in 2010, I have been extremely impressed with the quality of care that we are able to deliver to our patients. The results that I have seen have been truly amazing.”

“It is quite gratifying to me to see the smiles on patients’ faces when they finally get relief from the pain that has prevented them from enjoying life. I am very proud of my staff members here, and they are all dedicated to making each and every patient feel special. I can honestly say that there is no other facility like ours in the Charlotte area and probably the entire southeast. We exemplify excellence.”

Dr. Mia Cunningham
Chiropractic Physician
After obtaining a B.S. in Biology at Hampton University in Virginia, and a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Life University in Marietta, Georgia, Dr. Mia Cunningham is bringing her talents back to her hometown at Dynamic Health and Pain Management.

Dr. Cunningham has always had a passion for serving others. For a year after her graduation from Life University, she worked in personal injury at Chiro-Time Clinic in Atlanta. With valuable work experience and knowledge to share, Dr. Cunningham decided to return to Charlotte to serve in a community near and dear to her heart.

Our practice presented itself as a great fit for Dr. Cunningham, who prefers the holistic treatment method, and doesn’t think drugs should be the first solution to pain. Joining the team at DHPM allowed for Dr. Cunningham to treat the patient in totality, with access to state-of-the-art equipment and new technology, two things that have become her favorite parts of her new position with us.

Dr. Cunningham tries to live her life by an inspiring Martin Luther King Jr. quote: “Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
